Gone for Good…
The Wes Montogomery Park Swimming Pool
Why Can’t We Just Have A Swimming Pool In Our Park?
INDIANAPOLIS, March 11, 2010 – During the fall of 2008, Indy Parks announced it would close the swimming pool at Wes Montgomery Park for repairs. Repairs…the pool has been raggedy for over three years and it is dangerous to swim there. The trees at the park are overgrown, the basketball court needs work, the grass is always too long and we just got a walking path!!!
About the repairs, well, one year later it has been announced that the swimming pool will be replaced with a spray park!!! There are no other swimming pools in our area. At the meeting Tuesday night in our community, they didn’t show us a good picture of what a spray park is and we are too old and big to be playing in a kiddie spray park!!! Now the closest swimming pool will be at Broad Ripple Park which is too far for us to go without transportation, it cost too much, and they treat us bad. We could go to Douglas Park or Brookside, but my mother may not have swimming money or money for bus fare.
We, the children of the community hope you come, support and learn about what is going on in our community; the media always talks about how bad we are so let’s see if they listen when we are trying good ways to change the community. Me and a whole bunch of my friends are holding a press conference on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 5:00 p.m., at Forest Manor Multi-Service Center, 5603 East 38th Street to find out why can’t we just have a swimming pool in out park?
